EPION Confession Booth
First Impressions
Each time I go EPION clinic, I must confess to being massively impressed by the decadent décor. It sits on the edge of Tudor Court at the doorway to Tanglin Mall, right where conservation beauty meets modernity.
Skin Sin
The other confession I seem to make is with the state of my skin. I feel as if my soul is laid bare right there on my face. Every wrinkle speaks of another long night shift at the hospital. Congested pores reference galas with make-up I was too tired to remove properly before bed. Every laugh line, time spent with my kids. The writing’s on the wall of my dehydrated, sagging forehead. And there’s no hiding these truths from the EPION staff.
EPION STAR Treatment
Pathological Trier
The first time I went to EPION was almost half a year ago. As I review my calendar from the days leading up to my facial, I realise I was burning the candle at both ends. Some commitments I perceived to be important for education of young students, others for the community. But I also found myself spending a lot of time at club launches, anniversary parties & other social events. At that time, I thought it was important that I be there for my friends. I tried to do everything. Consequently, my week was full Of Clan, Family & Alma Matters.
Time To Heal
As a result, when I set foot in EPION clinic, I was extremely fatigued. Hence it was a relief to indulge in some “me time” and in such a gloriously decked out clinic, no less. I was met by the founder’s wife, Su Lyn, before having a discussion with Dr Melvin Tan himself.
We did a brief analysis of my face. As usual, I found myself offering up desperate explanations, from too much coffee, to too little sleep. Dr Melvin bore my excuses with the gentle patience of a man who has heard it all. He kindly made no judgements, only sensible suggestions. I was then ushered to a cosy room for my STAR treatment. Now, STAR is an acronym for Skin Tightening, Aqua-dermabrasion & Rehydration. It includes infrared pulses, a resurfacing HydraFacial and a hydrating mask. This facial lasted 2 hours; perfect for a disco nap. I left feeling rejuvenated.
EPION Power Hour Facial
Pathologically Drier
Last week I returned to for another facial. My face was glad to be taken to EPION after accompanying me to work & social events. Don’t get the wrong idea; I had a wonderful time at these parties. I enjoyed my time with the kids at their events as much as the whisky parties with pals and galas with the doctors. But my skin just got drier and rebelled in a crop of blotchy zits. I’m sure if you connect the dots on my face it would spell “Help”.
Power Through
The facial which I tried this time started with a chemical peel followed by an aqua jet peel. Then a scraping implement was used to remove the deal skin cells. An ultrasound probe was rolled around my face for a deep cleanse and also to infuse a hydrating serum. Finally a vitamin therapy mask was applied to boost collagen synthesis. I felt good, despite coming from a busy night shift. Good enough to power through the rest of the day.
Subsequently I had a fantastic afternoon with my son, M4, at the Tanglin Club library. I also caught up with a buddy, Dr Adrian, to pass him some copies of my book How We Save A Heart Together. We also chatted about how we’ve changed over the past 10 years of our friendship. We realized that we’re often in situations where we can’t be our authentic selves. Sometimes it is what is required of us. As much as possible, we decided to really just be ourselves because well, we’re getting old. Frankly, I ain’t got time for wasting.
Discovery Channel
So this is what I discovered when I looked through my social media channels to see what on earth is taking up my time:
- From the photographs, I appear to wear my burgundy jumpsuit a lot! Goodness me. It’s just so very comfy though. Find it on http://iwantthemissingpiece.com/
- I should rest more. The EPION staff know it, my face knows it. My calendar just needs to declutter a little. Which brings me to my next point.
- Is all of my (potential sleep) time spent with people who would sacrifice their sleep for me too? I think I need to spend my time more wisely, on people who matter, and one of those is myself.
